Nagasaki
Nagasaki is a beautiful port town on the island of Kyushu. It was destroyed on 9 August 1945 (3 days after Hiroshima was destroyed) by an atomic bomb at the end of World War II. The location of the epicenter is marked by a black pillar. It is also home to Oura Catholic Church which was built for foreigners in 1864 - Japanese were not allowed to practice Christianity until 1872.
