Ise
The chief shrine of the Shinto religion is at Ise. The shrine is surrounded by 800-year old cedars and is situated near the banks of the Isuzu river. Eveny 20 years the buildings of the shrine - built entirely without nails - are torn down and replaced with identical buildings on an adjacent lot. I was fortunate to be there in 1973 when both sets of buildings could still be seen.
